Supporting Academic Work and University Applications

  1. Critical Thinking is compulsory for the Autumn term of Year 12 so that all girls have a thorough grounding in these valuable skills. Skills learned here are applicable in all their A level subjects, and beyond, and universities value critical thinking courses.  Students may choose to take her Critical Thinking studies right through to AS exam level at the end of Year 12.
  2. ICT is also compulsory for the Autumn term in Year 12. The aim is to ensure that all students have the necessary ICT skills and expertise to function effectively in today’s world of academia and work. Again, the student may choose to continue into a second term of ICT, although we do not offer this subject through to AS examinations.
  3. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is available from Spring term in Year 12 and is optional. Students who opt into this course will have some taught lessons, but primarily this is a personal, independent research project, which should be completed over the summer holidays between Year 12 and Year 13, for submission before Autumn half term in Year 13. For more information click here.
  4. UCAS and higher education information and advice is provided both at formal events and informally via our Head of Careers, Oxbridge Coordinator and Head of 6th Form. This starts in the first week of Year 12, with visits from several old girls who are in their second or third years at many different universities and who speak individually to students about their experiences.
