Entry to the Senior School is selective and the main entry point is Year 7 (11+).
Applications for Year 7 2019 are now open and the deadline for registering is noon on Tuesday 6 November 2018. To make an application please complete the online registration form linked below.
For 2019 entry and beyond, we will be testing candidates in TWO stages. This will enable us to let candidates know earlier on in Year 6 whether they will meet the criteria for entry to Year 7, within what is always a highly competitive field. For those not invited back, November will mark the end of their 11+ experience at Wimbledon, leaving the girls to concentrate on preparations for their remaining school choices. For our second stage our 11+ assessment reflects our approach here in school and puts the individual at the heart of all that we do.
All 11+ candidates must be available to come to Wimbledon High School on these key dates:
Tuesday 20 November 2018 and Monday 14 January 2019.
We will be testing all candidates in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These papers will be sat by girls on Tuesday 20 November 2018 for 2019 entry into Year 7.
The results will be posted on 27 November, with approximately half the girls being invited back for Stage 2 on 14 January 2019.
On Monday 14 January 2019 we will hold Stage 2 – an interactive morning of assessments in groups of approximately 7 girls. Within a carousel of inspiring activities, we will be looking to assess the following: curiosity, clarity of thought and communication, risk-taking, creativity, teamwork, integrity, teachability, problem solving, numeracy.
We will also be testing literacy in a short writing task at the end of the morning. The theme of the task will build on the sorts of questions the candidates will be pondering in the earlier sessions. As we do not want girls to prepare for the writing task, we will not be giving out details about it in advance.
Our Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning exams form the core deciding factors in the assessment process. We recommend that all applicants familiarise themselves with Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, by practising a few papers in advance of the exam date. Copies of such papers can be purchased online or at bookshops. We do not give out details about the Creative Assessment Day in advance. Our aim with all our entrance tests is that girls are able to sit them without the need for extensive preparation or practice. After the exam, and before offers are made, we may contact candidates to come in for an interview, to help with our decision making.
Because of the highly interactive nature of our assessments on 14 January 2019, we will not be offering an alternative date. Please bear this in mind when applying for other schools whose dates might clash with ours.
Further information about our new testing, and advice on many aspects of the 11+ process will be available at our 11+ Toolkit Sessions on 10 October or 14 November.
All candidates (with one accompanying parent each) will be invited to one of these sessions where you will be able to have a short tour of the school and also share experiences with other parents.
