Junior School Curriculum

Whether your daughter is 4 years, 11 years or somewhere in between our philosophy is the same: we want your daughter to feel safe, secure and happy in all that she does. Everything we do builds year on year on solid foundations and the girls are encouraged to become increasingly independent as they develop. Confidence is the key and this enables the girls to tackle new challenges and develop their skills, inside or outside the classroom.

We aim for excellence in all that we deliver, nurturing moral, spiritual and social development alongside intellectual growth. Our teachers are innovative and challenging of the girls, so that each and every one is sufficiently stretched and motivated.

Key skills and targets are introduced step by step, be it in reading, writing and maths or performance, the arts and sport. From Year 2 girls learn a language (typically Spanish or German; French from Year 5). Going up through the school, the scope of science and humanities work increases; philosophical thinking is introduced. As they get older, the girls are taught by specialist teachers for science, music, languages and PE.

Our girls have a natural and growing curiosity about the world around them and this is very often reflected in the way they approach classroom discussions. Emphasis is placed on increasing personal responsibility and on encouraging greater independence of thought. From Reception to Year 6, each year is packed full of exciting and challenging activities both in and out of the classroom.
