Junior Sports

Sport plays an important role in Junior School life. As well as the clubs on offer as part of our Arcadia co-curricular programme, girls are challenged in a broad range of activities as part of the curriculum.

WHS Junior NetballersAll girls swim in our 25m pool on-site, we offer a large sports hall for gymnastics and PE and a short walk away are our playing fields at Nursery Road – the original site of Wimbledon’s All England Club. Here, we have two full-size Astro hockey pitches, a running track and netball/tennis courts.

Through varied and fun lessons and activities, we focus on improving pupils’ skills and understanding, whilst teaching girls the benefits of a fit and active lifestyle. For younger girls, the aim is to develop coordination, balance and ball skills. As they get older they're introduced to a range of sports, including Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Gymnastics, Tennis, Cricket, Athletics.

We've had considerable success in recent times, with our U11 girls winning the GDST swimming rally, amongst other triumphs!

Beyond the PE curriculum, girls have the chance to participate in a variety of clubs. Pupils from Year 3 upwards can try for places in school teams and take part in fixtures against other schools. Our Sports Fixtures website shows upcoming matches.
