Sport plays an important role in Junior School life. Girls are challenged in a broad range of activities as part of the curriculum.
We focus on improving pupils’ skills and understanding, making lessons enjoyable and fun, whilst teaching girls the benefits of a fit and active lifestyle. For younger girls the aim is to develop co-ordination, balance and ball skills. As they get older they're introduced to a range of sports. We've had considerable success in recent times, with our U11 girls winning the GDST swimming rally, amongst other triumphs!
Our major winter sports are Netball, Hockey, Swimming and Gymnastics.
Our summer sports include Athletics, Tennis and Cricket
Younger girls have the equivalent of two double lessons of PE a week, which include the following activities: Gymnastics/Dance, Games and Swimming all year round.
Older girls have the equivalent of two double lessons of PE a week, which include the following activities: Gymnastics/Dance, Games and Swimming all year round. In the summer term we teach Athletics, Tennis and Cricket.
Beyond the PE curriculum, girls have the chance to participate in a variety of clubs which are designed to be as inclusive as possible.
Girls from Year 3 upwards can also try for places in school teams and take part in fixtures against other schools.
And do check the Sports Fixtures website to see what matches are coming up, and our performance in those matches.
