Chamber Music Evening

Congratulations to all girls who performed at the WHS Chamber Concert; the standard of music-making was simply exceptional.

Each and every ensemble relished the musical challenges presented to them, with particularly noticeable performances by Wind Quintet, String Quartet, Flute Group and Swing Band. Baroque Ensemble, full of musical energy, drive and professionalism, played a very moving performance of Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings whilst our two String Ensembles showed just how much musical promise there is in Year 7-10, with two wonderful performances. The Djembe Drummers performed their own rhythmic composition – full of energy with the Senior Hall resounding to the complex cross-rhythms. The evening was also chorally strong, with beautiful folk arrangements performed by Close Harmony Singers, and memorable performances by both Canto and A Cappella. Huge thanks must be extended to the staff in the Music Department – Mr Wilson, Miss Kennington, Mr Hiscock, Mr Bricht, Miss Balmain, Miss Green, Dr Parsons and Mrs Martin – for all they did to make the evening such a success.
