What to think about when looking at schools

As you may be visiting several schools over this time, we recommend asking the following questions to help you in your decision making:

  • How will you help my daughter reach her academic potential?
  • What is your stance on discipline?
  • How will you nurture and support my child as she grows into a teenager?
  • How much homework will my daughter be set?
  • Will she be encouraged in music, art and drama?
  • How much time in the week is committed to sports?
  • Will she be able to pursue other non-academic interests?

Observe and speak with students as well as teachers - are they the sort of girls you would like your daughter to have as friends? Are they well-mannered and do they take pride in their school?

Please see our Visit/Contact the School page for directions. We strongly recommend you come by public transport, especially on the Saturday as traffic in central Wimbledon will be busy and parking difficult. We regret that there are no parking facilities on the school site at any time and parking is limited to a few metered bays in the area immediately surrounding the school.

Please contact the Junior admissions secretary with enquiries about Junior School entry or the Senior admissions secretary for enquiries about the Senior School and 6th Form.

Wimbledon High School is situated in the heart of Wimbledon and very well served by public transport. The station is a few minutes' walk away, serving National Rail, London Underground and Tramlink.

If you are driving to Wimbledon to visit the school, please use one of the two public car parks marked on the map and allow plenty of time. Parking in Mansel Road and surrounding roads is limited to a few metered bays.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Open Days

We hold various Open Events through the year, giving parents and girls the chance to see the school on a normal working day. The Senior School also holds one Saturday Open Day annually, in October.

Senior School Open Events 2013

Our Saturday open day every October is an excellent introduction to the school and can be an exciting morning for your daughter as she tries some of the many activities put on in the classrooms. For parents in Years 5 and 6 wishing to look round the school on a normal working day, we provide a number of opportunities for parents and daughters to visit. All dates are included in the pdf document below, for easy printing.

11+ Interviews / 11+ Open Mornings – Autumn term 2013

We run 11+ interview days on Wednesdays through the Autumn Term. Parents of all registered applicants (Year 6) are invited to have a tour of the school with a 6th Former while their daughters are being interviewed in pairs and taken on a shorter tour. The Head also gives a talk to parents and girls. A specific date will be allocated for these interviews.

These mornings double up as opportunities primarily for Year 5 parents and daughters (and maybe Year 4) to tour the school on a normal working day and listen to the Head’s talk. We limit numbers, so booking is essential.

                                   11+ Tours depart at 9am or 10.40am
Headmistress’ talk for all visitors from 10.20am – 10.40am

Wednesday 2 October,  9 October, 16 October, 6 November, 13 November, 20 November, 27 November, 4 December, 11 December

  Please email our receptionist, Mrs Rashid: info@wim.gdst.net / tel: 020 8971 0900.

Saturday Open Day, 12 October

9.30am - 12.30pm

Everyone is welcome and if you just wish to have a look around the school, there is no need to book for this day. Your daughter will be able to take part in activities in the classrooms as part of a tour with one of our students.

However, booking is required for the Headmistress’ talk, which is repeated several times during the morning – bookings open in the latter part of the summer term.

Open Day is a great way to get a feel for the school, our ethos and facilities. If your daughter is in Year 5, and as a way to ease congestion on Open Day, we recommend you book in for an 11+ Open Morning in the autumn term instead.

Summer term

A visit in the early summer term is a good way of having a look around before the autumn rush of trying to attend many schools’ open days. These are open to parents and their daughters (Year 5 or 4 only). The two dates for 2014 will be published shortly.
