Senior School Admissions

Senior School (11 - 18 years) Admissions

Entrance to the Senior School is selective and the main entry points are at 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Year 12, 6th Form - see 6th Form Admissions).

Occasional vacancies may sometimes arise in other years of the Senior School, with tests generally held towards the end of each term or by arrangement - please contact the Senior Admissions Secretary for further details.

We offer means-tested bursaries worth up to 100% of fees at 11+ and 16+. Please see the pdf document below for details.

11+ Entry - to start in Year 7

We are now accepting applications for 2014 entry. The deadline for applications is Friday 15 November 2013, or Friday 8 November 2013 for applications accompanied by bursary or music scholarship requests. The registration form is included in our prospectus or may be downloaded at the bottom of the page. Please remember A4 envelopes require a 'large letter' stamp to avoid postal delays.

Student Interviews – Wednesdays in Autumn term
We interview all candidates, in pairs, on Wednesday mornings during the course of the autumn term. The interview takes the form of a three-way discussion with a senior teacher and includes a reading and oral comprehension exercise, with questions directed at each girl alone, so that she has every chance to speak up. This assesses her listening as well as reading, comprehension and thinking skills.

Either before or after the interview, your daughter has a short tour of the school with a 6th Former. Accompanying parents meanwhile are given a longer tour by a 6th Former, and the chance to see the school at work on a normal school day. During the morning, girls and parents together attend a talk by the Headmistress, about what to expect at Senior School and more details about entrance exam day.

Entrance Exam – January 2014
Our entrance exam is the core deciding factor in the application process. It consists of two papers:

    • Verbal Reasoning
    • Non-Verbal Reasoning

We recommend that all applicants familiarise themselves with this style of examination, by practising a few papers in advance of the exam date. Copies of such papers can be purchased online or at bookshopd.

For more information, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Scholarships and Bursaries
If you are applying for a bursary, please first consult the GDST document (pdf) below, which outlines the criteria and tick the relevant box on our registration form. We will send you a more detailed bursary application form in the autumn term. Bursaries are means-tested and worth up to 100% of fees.

The music scholarship audition is held after the entrance exam results are published – ie: your daughter must first have secured an academic place to qualify for an audition.

We award academic scholarships to the top performing candidates in the entrance exam. These are not means-tested. We offer a number of scholarships at 16+ for the 6th Form. Please see the 6th Form Admissions page for more details.
