Heather Hanbury became Headmistress of WHS in September 2008, having been Deputy Head of Latymer Upper School and Head of Sixth Form at both Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls and Blackheath High School GDST. Prior to beginning her teaching career, she spent eight years as a management consultant in the City followed by two years as fundraising manager for VSO in Putney. In her spare time, she is a keen bridge player and loves cooking and going to the theatre. |

Mrs Janet Mitchell BSc Bristol, Biochemistry |
Janet Mitchell has been Deputy Head (Academic) since September 2004. Prior to this post she was Deputy Head (Academic and Curriculum) at Bristol Grammar School. A graduate Biochemist she has taught Chemistry for 26 years running her own Chemistry department for 9 years and continues to enjoy a small amount of teaching in the laboratory at WHS. She umpires sports fixtures and assists with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme whenever time allows. Her interests include reading, swimming, sailing and walking. |

Ms Patsy Preece MA Loughborough, Education |
Patsy Preece became Deputy Head [Pastoral] last year, after 7 years as Director of Students at WHS. Her academic background is in English and Drama as joint main subjects as she loves them both equally. Her career has taken her into a range of contrasting schools: large and small, city and rural, all-girls and co-ed; she values the different experiences offered by each. Interests include travelling, watercolour painting and labouring on her allotment. |

Miss Kate Mitchell MA York, Primary Education |
Kate Mitchell began teaching at Stamford Boys School and went on to Ashville College Junior School in Harrogate where she was Deputy Head and in charge of Junior girl boarders. Whilst in Harrogate she took her MA in Primary Education at York University. She then moved to London where she spent four years as Deputy Head at Alleyn’s Junior School before joining WHS as Head of Juniors in 2003. Her interests include walking, theatre and bridge. |

Mr Bob Haythorne MA Oxon, Physics |
Bob Haythorne is responsible for the curriculum and its development, making sure that WHS remains at the forefront of current thinking. He ensures the right people get to the right place at the right time, managing the timetable and school calendar. He joined WHS in 2006, having been Head of Science at St. Olave’s Grammar School, Orpington and Head of Physics at King Edward’s School, Bath. His interests are largely musical, but he has also helped out on the technical side of our Theatre and runs the Cryptic Crossword Club. |
