The French department is enthusiastic and vibrant; we combine grammatical rigour with oral fluency, confidence and fun.
French is a universally important language that is relevant to all careers and teaches students valuable transferable skills (reading for gist, deciphering unknown language, communication skills, essay writing skills, to name but a few).
In Years 7, 8 and 9 we cover topics such as:
In Year 8 all students go on a day trip to Lille.
We study the Edexcel course, which assesses the 4 key skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Our Year 10 students enjoy a residential study visit to Rouen to practise their language.
At A Level we study the EdExcel course, which covers :
Key Stage 3 French club – the opportunity to practise what is learnt in class with teachers and Sixth Formers and to enjoy access to reading material / magazines / games on websites.
We also run a French film club.
