We put girls first, always. Our professional and passionate staff work together to put girls at the very heart of all that we do; empowering them to lead, shine and thrive.
Why does that matter?
A girl’s years at a girls’ school may be the only time in her life she will be in an environment that is designed with her in mind, with people that put her at the centre of all they do and with all choices open to her.
Our research evidences why girls benefit from a girls-only education. Read more here:
The impact of a girls - only education at aged 9:
Girls First - Always
Our aim is to build confidence in a girl’s early years that lasts through school and life. Our specialist teaching helps girls learn without limits.
A bespoke, girl-centred curriculum matters in the Junior School, ensuring girls reach their full potential. Our pastoral care is designed around girls’ needs, creating a supportive environment where students celebrate and uplift one another. Vertical connections from the oldest to the youngest foster mentorship, integration and fellowship.
Adventure, discovery and curiosity are woven throughout school life. We encourage girls to embrace challenge and develop the confidence that comes from stepping beyond their comfort zone.
Our outcomes speak for themselves, with academic results that support the well-evidenced narrative that girls thrive intellectually in girls-only environments.
But Junior School is about more than academics. Girls learn to collaborate, communicate, support one another and develop leadership skills that stay with them throughout their lives.
The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) Mission
We share the mission of the GDST, which is to help girls learn without limits, so that they go on to lead lives without limits:
Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST)
Wimbledon High School is a proud member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, a unique family of 26 girls’ schools, including 24 independent schools and two academies, across England and Wales. As specialists in girls’ education, we tailor our teaching to the way girls learn best.
The GDST was founded in 1872 by four pioneering women who believed that girls should be entitled to the same academic education as their brothers. The mission is to help girls learn without limits, so that they go on to lead lives without limits.
GDST’s vision is to create a more equitable world for all by equipping girls to be the leaders and changemakers of the future.
When Wimbledon High School’s founding mothers established our school in 1880, they declared that “girls have minds as fine as men’s which are worth educating” – a revolutionary statement in its day.
Over 145 years later, we’re keeping true to that pioneering, progressive spirit in SW19.
