Sport in the Junior School

With a 25m swimming pool on site, playing fields a 10-minute walk away and a large sports hall in addition to our Junior hall, we offer outstanding facilities for our pupils to enjoy and excel in sport, as befits a through school from 4 to 18.

Having fun playing team games or learning new skills of hand-eye coordination builds confidence, broadens horizons and keeps our pupils happy and healthy. Being part of the GDST allows our sports teachers to arrange fixtures, sports tours and training with peers at other schools. While of course there is a competitive element to trialling for teams as the girls get older, we always want to encourage all pupils to enjoy sport and being active.

All girls learn to swim and every year we see success in competitive swim rallies against local schools, with some pupils going no to represent their county or country in the pool. Junior School alumnae have gone on to the international sporting arena in tennis, hockey, karate, netball and fencing in the past.

Sports clubs range from multisports, skateboarding, Pilates to clubs building on our curriculum: swimming, gym, hockey, netball, tennis, cricket…

Sports Fixtures

As pupils move up the school, opportunities for competitive matches grow. Being part of the Girls' Day School Trust and Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) allows us to participate in nationwide competitions and of course there are our annual sports days fostering competitive House spirit!
