DT&E Exhibition and Awards Evening

As a new Head of Department I have been blown away by the commitment, creativity and passion students have demonstrated throughout the year in Design Technology & Engineering. 

Last Wednesday was my first DT&E Exhibition and Awards evening here at WHS, and what a way to celebrate and exhibit some of the outstanding work your daughters have been working on. The show opened with what can only be described as an ‘awe-inspiring’ fashion show. London Fashion week eat your heart out! The fashion show exhibited work from Years 7 – 13, including A level pieces that wouldn’t be amiss at events like the Met Gala. The exhibition was a roaring success with Year 11,12 and 13 students discussing their work at length with visitors, demonstrating a true passion and interest in their creations.

We were also extremely honoured to have two very passionate and inspiring speakers at the event; Clare Gaskin, who is an alumna of WHS, spoke avidly about her journey to becoming an International Award winning Interior designer and Ellie Moore, a graduate Engineer and Arkwright Scholar, working at BurroHappold, inspired all of us with her route into the world of engineering. To finish the evening I was honoured to present awards to so many talented and creative individuals. The awards focused on the skills we believe that are important for our students to not only develop in DT&E but to adopt in everyday application, whether it is in Maths, Science or even future careers.

Behind the scenes I have so many people to thank for all their hard work, however, the biggest ‘Thank you’ must go to the DT&E team, what a team they are! Without such dedicated, talented and amazing staff the event would not be what it was.
