This week the whole school has been full of literary delights, from author visits, House Poetry by Heart and, of course, World Book Day!
Authors Ewa Jozefkowicz and Lui Sit ran creative workshops in the Junior School, explaining how to write a compelling opening paragraph, develop your story and create a believable character.
Ewa also talked about her books Benji’s Emerald King and Fujiko and the Fox, both part of the Woodland Explorers Club series, and Lui discussed her book Land of the Last Wildcat, which was shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize and Waterstones Book of the Month.
They also joined pupils in the library for book‑signing sessions, taking time to speak with each girl individually.
Issy (Year 7), Maya, Nina and Lydia (Year 8) took part in the South West London heat of the National Reading Champions Quiz, run by the National Literacy Trust. It is a challenging quiz designed for the most avid readers, testing knowledge from a whole breadth of genres. The girls competed against 23 teams from schools across the area, finishing in 10th place.

House Poetry by Heart put memories to the test on Friday, with entrants from each Senior House reciting poems to a packed Senior Hall. In a cyclical moment, Imogen (Year 12) recited the same poem she did in Year 8 for her first Poetry by Heart – demonstrating an ambitious nature by choosing a tricky poem at a young age!
The Junior School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday by dressing up in costumes inspired by a favourite character or book. Lodestone House, our catering team, also got into the spirit by creating a special range of Alice in Wonderland themed cakes and biscuits! Please enjoy these photos from the day – click through the album below:
