Last week Amy and Celia (Year 6) took on the challenge to plan and lead a Junior School assembly on a topic they are interested in. Their whole-school assembly celebrated the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day.
World Thinking Day is celebrated by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide. It is a day to think of their fellow Guides and Scouts in all the different countries of the world and the global impact of the movement. This year the theme is ‘Friendship’.
Co-ordinating with a team of helpers from Years 3, 4 and 6, Amy and Celia taught everyone Guide songs and started making a friendship paperchain – writing words that are important to have in a friend, such as being kind, helpful or caring, on pieces of paper and linking them together. The two of them created 14 packs of paper strips over half-term so that every class can make their own paperchain.
It was an inspiring and varied assembly, delivered with poise and confidence. Well done!
