We have had some amazing recent chess successes across the Junior School, overseen by Susan Lalic, Woman Chess Grandmaster.
In April, Parisa, Darcey and Aarya attended the National Girls’ Schools’ Final – the biggest girls’ event in the country – at St. Catherine’s School in Bramley.
The team played nine rounds across two days, with Wimbledon coming in 4th place! An excellent result – well done!
The Surrey Chess Megafinals took place at St. George’s College, Weybridge on 3rd and 4th May. Those who scored 3.5 of more qualified for the National Gigafinals, which will take place in July.
Wimbledon was well represented with Aarya and Elin in the U-10 section; Annie, Emma, Navya and Tara in the U-9 section; Charlotte, Florence, Natalia, Xixi and Sophie-Ling in the U-8 section and Charlotte L, Xiru, Yanru, Emily and Alice in the U-7 section.
It was a very long day; all the girls each played six games!
Congratulations to Charlotte L, Xiru and Yanru for qualifying for the National Gigafinals ♟️
These are all fantastic chess achievements – all the girls should feel very proud of their accomplishments!
