The Junior School came together for their Remembrance Assembly on Tuesday 11th November.
Mrs Fryer led the assembly by talking about people ‘in service’, such as the Armed Forces, Ambulance and Fire Service, and their contribution to our world. She was joined by colleagues across the Junior School and Ms Kennedy from the Seniors, who recited the poem ‘Mending Wall’ by Robert Frost.
We were moved by some wonderfully poignant and beautifully performed singing from Koro Chamber Choir, Vox Chamber Choir and the Senior Choir, conducted by Mr Wray and accompanied by Dr Belton on the piano.
All of those present joined together to sing ‘Days When We Remember’ by Mary Green & Julie Stanley:
There are days when we remember
Great deeds that have been done
There are names that echo through the years
Like the beating of a drum.
We will always tell their stories,
We will always be in debt,
So we sing a song of praises
And never forget…
The people who stood for what is right
The people who kept their courage shining bright.
You inspired this generation
And generations still to come
So thank you, thank you for what you have done.
A two minute silence was held, after which The Last Post was played by Matilda in Year 11.
Throughout the week, Junior students have also been selling poppies for the Royal British Legion, and reception made beautiful poppy wreaths to display on their classroom doors.
