Last week, WHS was delighted to welcome our partner school from Beijing, The Affiliated Junior High School of Peking University (PKUS). A group of 20 students, accompanied by two PKUS teachers, joined our Mandarin students for a taste of school life at WHS.
Throughout the week, the PKUS students shadowed our students in lessons and participated in various excursions. They enjoyed activities such as a ‘History of Wimbledon High’ quiz and the Young Musician Event. One of the highlights of the week was the WHS and PKUS Showcase on Tuesday, where students performed poems, sang together, and shared videos of cooking both British and Chinese dishes. The week also featured a delightful tea party, where PKUS students and their WHS partners experienced an authentic English afternoon tea with clotted cream.
On Friday, both WHS and PKUS students visited Hampton Court Palace, exploring English history and navigating the famous maze. It was a touching moment as students waved goodbye at the platform, with some shedding tears.
This was our first exchange with PKUS, and it had a significant impact on our visitors from Beijing. They were impressed with the lessons and the friendliness of WHS teachers and students.
In April 2025, 11 WHS students will be heading to Beijing, and we look forward to hearing about all their adventures.
