We were delighted to once again celebrate the beginning of the festive season with our annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Sacred Heart Church.
Fionnuala Kennedy, Head; and Rebecca McKinlay, Chair of Governors; and students from Years 7-13 read the traditional lessons, interspersed with music from A Cappella, Canto, Chamber Choir, Mansel Voices, Brass Ensemble and congregational carols. We were also joined by professional musicians Keziah Thomas, Francesca Massey, Matthew Hart Dyke, Chris Ford and Martin Jarvis.
We were also treated to two student compositions. Thea (Y10) created a compelling setting of Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (R. Frost)—written for upper voices and four hands on one piano—beautifully capturing the poem’s themes of solitude, nature, and peace. Kenzie (Y13), who won our inaugural student fanfare composition competition, conducted Brass Ensemble in a fanfare to begin the congretional carol of While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks.
