The Junior School was alive with excitement as pupils took part in a vibrant and action‑packed Junior House Day, celebrating creativity, teamwork and the enduring spirit of the school’s four Houses: Garrett-Anderson, Austin, Somerville and Hepworth. The House system continues to be a cornerstone of school life, offering opportunities for valuable vertical connections between younger and older pupils and helping to build a strong sense of community.
The morning began with the ever popular Upper Junior Inter House Quizzes in the Junior Hall.
During two separate quizzes for Years 3 & 4 and 5 & 6, the girls demonstrated impressive teamwork, enthusiasm and determination.
Overall scores from the quiz:
1st, Somerville = 3556 pts
Joint 2nd, Austen = 3383 pts
Joint 2nd, Hepworth = 3383 pts
4th, Garrett Anderson = 3195 pts
Throughout the day, every year group headed to the Auditorium to take part in an inspiring International Scribble Day activity. Working together, pupils transformed long sheets of paper into colourful displays filled with House‑themed artwork, allowing creativity and collaboration to take centre stage.
Out on the playground, the Houses faced off in the lively House Speed Skipping Challenge, cheered on by staff and classmates. The Junior School counted a phenomenal 9071 skips in total, with every girl skipping for 30 seconds. That’s equivalent to climbing the Empire State Building twice or almost enough skips to jump from Wimbledon to Big Ben!
The day offered further variety, with our youngest and oldest pupils, Reception and Year 6, taking part in a collaborative play session as well as fiercely contested Inter-House Maths Challenges, a Year 6 House Swimming Gala and a Year 3 House Football Tournament. Each activity gave pupils a chance to support one another and try something new whilst contributing valuable points to their House totals.
A Celebration of House Spirit
Junior House Day was a resounding success, filled with laughter, creativity and energetic participation. Staff and pupils alike embraced the activities with enthusiasm, helping to make the day a memorable celebration of community, connection and spirited teamwork across the Junior School.
