Today we commemorated Remembrance Day in a beautiful service of reflection. Year 13 student Emilia gave a speech highlighting ‘Lessons from a Divided Past’:
“Today, as we honour the bravery of those who fought and sacrificed, let us also remember that we are here because of their commitment to unity and peace. We are here because they believed in a future where people could live free from the threats of persecution and war. It’s up to us to carry forward that legacy—not just by remembering their stories, but by living in a way that upholds the values they fought to protect.
This Remembrance Day let’s honour the past by committing to a future where the sacrifices of those who came before us will not have been in vain. May we remember the horrors of war not as relics of history but as reminders of our responsibility to each other. And may we carry forward the legacy of those who showed us that courage is not just the willingness to fight but the strength to build peace in even the most challenging of times.”
There were also readings of Robert Frost’s 1914 poem ‘Mending Wall’ by Ms Kennedy, and ‘The Forgotten Voice of Herbert Holewa’, alongside poignant musical performances by students and staff.
Students in Crochet Club have also been working hard to make crocheted poppies, which they sold to fellow students and staff. All proceeds have been donated to the Royal British Legion.
