Rowing at WHS continues from strength to strength

Alex Watson, Head of Rowing, shares all the rowing news from the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 2024/2025 season has been one to remember for Wimbledon High School Boat Club (WHSBC), with standout performances and milestones across the board. All our girls work so hard day in an out, on and off the water! The results and culture has shown this year. Our J15s claimed victory at Schools’ Head, while our senior crew came heartbreakingly close, missing out by just 0.2 seconds. For the first time ever, two WHSBC eights competed at WEHoRR, showcasing the growing depth in our senior squad. Our J14s smashed club records on the ergos, and we saw a record number of entries at both Junior Sculling Head and National Schools’ Regatta, reflecting the strength and enthusiasm across all age groups. We also put more boats on the start line this year than ever before — a true testament to the momentum building within the club. On the pathway front, three athletes were invited to GB trials, with Mia still progressing through the selection process. To top it all off, we had another proud showing at Henley Royal Regatta only last week, only the third time the program has qualified. I look forward to the 2025/2026 season, watch this space!

Our Rowing Annual Dinner was a fantastic evening celebrating the hard work, achievements, and team spirit of WHSBC this season. It was wonderful to see rowers, parents, and coaches come together to reflect on an incredible year of racing, growth, and club pride. From hearing for some WHSBC alumnae to the awards and disco, it was a lovely evening for the community. A highlight of the year!

We’re also thrilled to share that, thanks to the generosity and support of our community, we successfully raised the funds for a new racing boat eight. The new season will see a new Hudson eight added to our fleet- an exciting addition that will benefit our athletes for years to come. Thank you to everyone who contributed and made the evening such a success!
