Year 5 spent the morning of Wednesday 13th November on Wimbledon Common as part of their Wild Girls sessions.
This fitted in very well with their current science topic which is the life cycle of animals and plants. During the morning, we identified a range of deciduous and evergreen trees using such features as tree shape, and the colour, shape, position and stickiness of the buds, as many of the trees had already lost their leaves. We also answered the question
Which is the most common tree species on Wimbledon Common?
and were able to work out the ages of many of the trees we found by taking a variety of measurements. Great scientific skills were shown by all!
