Co-Curricular Activities
At WHS, we don’t like to draw too firm a distinction between what happens in the classroom and what lies beyond: we believe that the happiest, most fulfilled students will be challenging themselves in all aspects of school life, and forging great friendships and connections along the way. Having the opportunity to try a huge range of co-curricular clubs and activities, to find your thing, is part of the excitement of joining senior school. Our co-curricular offer is extensive, with the overarching aim of attaining a broad, inspiring and inclusive programme.

Sport at WHS supports and develops students of all abilities. From recreational sport for those who just want physical exercise, to developmental which provides opportunities for more competitive engagement and then onto high performance, where we compete on some of the most competitive county, regional and national stages with ever growing success. The sports department lead an extensive fixtures programme both mid-week and on Saturday mornings and the boat club row out of East Moseley, from Y8.

Music offers extensive ensembles like the Concert Orchestra, Canto, Swing Band and Sinfonia with major performances held at prestigious venues like Cadogan Hall. The weekly rehearsals lead to many performance opportunities as we host regular concerts such as the Young Musician competition and collaborate with local schools for events such as the Battle of the Bands. There are opportunities for individual lessons with our visiting music teachers and the chance to apply for music scholarships.

Drama offers performance opportunities for all year groups, annually, and from Y8 upwards, the opportunity to perform in either a play or a musical annually. We also host LAMDA with Helen Goodman, as a LAMDA teacher and there is also the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.

The super-curricular programme compliments and extends the curriculum within subjects such as science, humanities, languages and art. Annually students enter science Olympiads and Maths challenges often with great success. This is a time where academic passions can be pursued in greater depth and there are often opportunities to lead and present at many of these societies.

Personal development provides the opportunity to extend in areas such as oracy, with a thriving MUN and debating programme, or chess, reading, sculpture and scrabble, or the opportunity to look beyond and into our local community to support our partnerships programme with local care homes and schools.
