As a busy half term of sports fixtures came to an end, we're happy to share the fabulous news that Wimbledon High are GDST Hockey Champions!

  • U18 Hockey Team won the GDST Finals
This is the first time in living memory (as far as we can see, the school last won this trophy in 1911) and we are delighted!
The team came through their qualifying round unbeaten, only conceding one goal. Having qualified, the students made the trip to Northampton High GDST to take part in the GDST Hockey Finals where they faced three group stage games, remaining unbeaten in those as well. They finished second in their group, having to face the other winners in the other group (Bromley High GDST); the game was 0-0 which meant it went onto shuffles (1 on 1 with the keeper), being level after five attempts we went into a sudden death shoot-out and both teams scored in their first attempt. Molly McE saved what would have been a Bromley goal, and we then stepped up and converted our chance which meant we'd won and progressed onto the finals! Here we faced Streatham and Clapham High GDST (whom we had beaten in qualifying), withstanding a barrage of attacks before breaking with Amelie R, who dribbled through the majority of their team, rounding the keeper to score putting us 1-0 up. We then dominated possession for the next period of play, resulting in us scoring again meaning that we won the trophy!

  • Meanwhile, U14 Netball Team won 2nd place at the GDST Finals, and the U15 Netball Team qualified for the Surrey Finals!

On a broader note, well done to all students for their participation and representation in sport these past weeks. Here's a round-up of some successes across the Senior and Junior School:

  • Good performances and hard fought matches from U14 and U16 Hockey last week
