Exploring Life Challenges Through WHS GROW Days

Senior Pastoral

We have been holding dedicated off-timetable 'GROW' days for Year 8 and 9, with other years scheduled throughout the year.

These days are designed to be reflective of the real world and to equip the students with understanding on how to navigate the practical and emotional challenges they will face, such as friendship and relationships. The students took part in 1:1s with Tutors, as well as a bespoke programme of talks and activities.

To kick off the days, the year groups had a team bonding session in the Hastings Dining Hall with a year group breakfast, moving swiftly onto sessions in the Rutherford and Senior Hall. Year 8 explored a host of interesting topics, for instance, tips on 'how own the room', and 'how to nudge your grudge'. Year 9 looked at different relationships among peers, family, themselves, as well as digital connections - did you know that if you have strong, close relationships, you are two to five times less likely to have a major health challenge? As the days concluded, each individual was invited to reflect on GROW day, posting their thoughts on Flipgrid.
