To kick off the first Rosewell Lecture of the academic year, we were joined by mathematician, speaker and author, Rob Eastaway.
He captivated the audience with an inspiring talk on maths in Shakespeare. Hear from two of our Year 13 students, Georgia P and Darcy McA on the evening below:
It was such an honour to able to have Rob Eastaway here this evening. It is important and interesting to be given the opportunity to consider the interdisciplinary nature of our subjects, especially in such an entertaining way! This talk helped to highlight that, even in Elizabethan times, subjects often seen as diametrically opposed (English and Maths) are always linked in more ways than we often consider. We were able to learn about things we have never thought of before tonight - from which wing of a goose Shakespeare's quill was from (the Left Wing!), to the colours of the rainbow, to the origin of the multiplication sign! Again, let's thank Rob Eastaway with another round of applause!
Look out for our upcoming Rosewell Talk in November - ‘Hamlet’s Bogus Soliloquy’ with Sir Brian Vickers...
