On Thursday 12 January, Year 12 gathered in the Rutherford Centre to hear from Mark Morgan, Engagement and Resettlement Coordinator at Feltham Young Offenders.
He gave an inspiring talk on his day-to-day life working with the inmates who are similar ages to the students at Sixth Form here; and shared the problems inmates and staff have had to overcome, in terms of education, funding, and managing during Covid lockdowns.
“On an average day, ideally, the boys will spend 6 hours a day in lessons. It would be 3 hours in the classroom, then 3 hours in the afternoon taking vocational lessons. These hours all depend on the availability of officers, we need 4 to the 15 classrooms. Education is important to them, because their time out of cells is consumed by education as they have nothing else.” It was an eye-opening experience and we thank Mark for his time.
