Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Winner

A huge congratulations to Karina in Y12 for winning a two-year Arkwright Engineering Scholarship! The scholarship is sponsored by the RAF and awards those with high aptitude in engineering.

Karina explains the scholarship in her own words below:

"I am grateful to have been awarded the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and must thank the School, and in particular Dr Sharma, who has kindly guided and supported my application.

The scholarship comprises a multi-staged selection process – initially an online application outlining my engineering interests, experiences and aspirations (Dec 2023), followed by a 2-hour aptitude test on technical and problem-solving skills (Feb 2023) and finally giving a presentation followed by a panel interview with academic and industry specialists (in April 2023, just before my GCSEs).

The result was announced in mid-September.

With my interests in aviation and being a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, I am delighted to be sponsored by the Royal Air Force (RAF). I attended the Award Ceremony last Friday (27 Oct) and had the opportunity to meet representatives from the RAF and am looking forward to be introduced to my Mentor in due course.

In addition to the scholarship funding, I am excited for the opportunities within the scholar development programme over the next two years - connect days with fellow scholars, networking opportunities at scholar events with the Programme’s Partner Companies, work experience opportunities and hopefully a chance to visit an RAF base too.

The 2023/24 Arkwright Engineering Scholarship application process has just opened and I would 100% recommend anyone in Y11 who is interested in STEM to apply!"
