Senior Spanish

The Spanish exchange trip to Murcia provided an opportunity for many Year 11 and 12 Spanish students to spend a week speaking nothing but Spanish, helping to improve their speaking and listening skills. Jess in Year 12 shares her experience...

We were met at Alicante airport by our very welcoming and hospitable hosts, and spent the weekend together with them. Luckily, we arrived during Carnival Week and so were able to see the wonderful costumes and hilarious dance acts; a particular favourite was a group of middle-aged men dressed as flower pots with huge headdresses and a fetching green leotard and tights combination! We accompanied our exchange partners to their school on one of the days, giving us a chance to experience the Spanish education system - even helping them with their studies of World War One. In order to help us with our A Level Spanish studies, our Spanish friends took us to Los Refugios de La Guerra Civil (air-raid shelters used during the Spanish Civil War). The Spanish felt it was vital that we got to know each other better and so there were lots of informal opportunities such as a karaoke night, mountain walks and a delicious farewell dinner. Our Spanish has certainly improved after a week of fully immersing ourselves into the language and culture; and we’ve made life-long friends.
