The National Reading Champions Quiz, run by the National Literacy Trust is in its 3rd year and open to students aged 10-14 years.

The competition is a celebration of the most avid readers and aims to promote reading for pleasure and encourage diverse reading. The quiz is tough, the only way to win the nationwide heats and progress to the grand finals is to have read as much as possible and have a team reflecting a variety of reading tastes.

Leyla Chrishan, Nancy Quinton, Flora Swinson-Howell and Georgia McSherry (all year 7) formed the team for WHS and represented SW London after winning their heat against 16 other competing schools.

The final was held at the very impressive Goldsmith’s Livery Hall with 22 teams representing regions from across Britain. Our team managed a brilliant joint 6th place in the finals, even more impressive when you know that they were one of 493 teams competing in the heats!

The finalists were treated to a Q&A with four popular authors including the Carnegie Book Award winning Anthony McGowan and were also given their pick of four books to take home.
