It's been ben a busy few days for our netball teams...

U11 IAPS Nationals

On Friday 17th March the U11 Netballers set off to Rugby School to take on the top 24 IAPS schools in the U11 National Finals. We knew we had prepared well, and the girls were ready for a competitive day of Netball. Our girls had a strong start winning the first 2 matches 8-0 and 9-0, we were feeling very positive until our third game which we lost 4-9. We knew going into our final group stage game we needed a win to go through to the Cup matches. It was a very tense game and could have gone either way, but the girls fought so hard, and we secured another victory 5-4. This meant we were second in our group and amongst the top 8 schools. Our Semi-final match draw was against last year’s winners, and we knew it was going to be tough. We held our own playing some of the best netball we’ve seen all season. At the end of the game, it was 5 all, which meant we had to go into extra time. All the other schools waiting for their next game gathered round to watch and for the next 5 minutes it felt like the final. Sadly, the other team ran away with it, following a rotation of players, and the final score was 6-13. An amazing day out and on points we worked out we finished in 5th place. A great achievement for the girls - Mrs Munford and Mrs Sinclair were so proud of their attitude, sportswomanship and determination.

U11 Surrey Netball

On Wednesday 22nd March the U11 Netball team travelled to Guildford for the Surrey Finals. We knew it would be another tough day with the best schools in Surrey competing for the title. The group draw put us up against the team we lost to at Nationals so we knew we had to bring our best netball to stand a chance of making it through to the finals. We played some fantastic netball battling against the windy conditions. Finishing 2nd in the group we had once again made it to through the quarterfinals. With a 5-2 win we were feeling confident as we entered the semi-finals. Another victory for WHS 6-4 which put us in the finals. Playing against the same school we lost to in the groups stages and that knocked us out in the semi-finals at Nationals we knew we had to play our very best netball to come away as the Champions. The girls played their hearts out and at half time we were up 4-3. Every turnover was an opportunity to stay ahead, and every goal had to count. We held on as the score went 4-4 and then 5-5 and then 6-6. It was very tense on both sides, Mrs Munford and Mrs Sinclair were shouting all the encouragement and advice they could to avoid the opposition from going ahead. One missed goal and the opposition turned over the ball and went ahead by one. With the next centre pass being theirs, they had the momentum and scored again taking the score to 6-8. The final whistle went and after an incredibly close final when it could have gone either way, our girls finished in 2nd place.
