Our bespoke academic curriculum, Adventum, puts philosophical thinking at the heart of learning. Right from Reception, we ask our girls to grapple with life’s big questions:
Adventum - Our Curriculum
Such philosophical enquiry at the centre of academic endeavour helps our girls develop a love of learning which will serve them through life. Our curriculum aims to fuse together the discovery of knowledge and skills, underpinned by provocative thinking, intellectual disruption, critical questioning and self-knowledge.
Starting in Lower Junior School and running throughout Upper Junior School our pupils gain an understanding of metaphysics, aesthetics and ethics within a rich context of storytelling, questioning and collaboration. Adventum instils a 'love of wisdom', integrity of thought and the social awareness to act with compassion, confidence and agency as well as a desire to grapple with and overcome the challenges presented by the world in which they are growing up. Specialist teaching in Music, Languages, Sport, Art and Science complements exceptional classroom teaching ensures each girl feels known, supported and challenged to reach her academic potential and develop a strong sense of self.
Experientia Scholarship Programme
Running alongside our Academic curriculum sits our Experientia Scholarship Programme, in which all our Upper JS pupils in Year 3 to Year 6 participate.
Designed to go beyond the conventional curriculum, it exposes Upper Junior School girls to a range of learning of experiences that challenge their view of the world. Comprising a range of short courses, our girls explore elements of both classical ‘enlightenment’ and progressive ‘modernist’ units of study devised to grow cultural capital, cultivate divergent thinking and enhance preparation for success in a globalised and digital world.
Our Experientia programme celebrates and embraces the different backgrounds, heritage, language and traditions of all the children living in this country. It helps our girls work collaboratively to understand what has gone before them and to create new and exciting forms of culture; things which may well help them fuel solutions to society’s problems and support them to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
