Our mission for Sport at Wimbledon High is to offer a broad and inspiring curricular and co-curricular programme where girls have the opportunity to learn a wide range of activities which contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
By providing inspiring teaching and high level coaching we ensure that each student is supported to reach her potential. Students strive for success by being pushed out of their comfort zone in an environment that builds resilience, nurtures curiosity, promotes teamwork and fosters leadership.
We have impressive facilities on the main school site that include a sports hall, 25m five-lane Swimming pool and a Netball/Tennis court, while a 10-minute walk away at Nursery Road we have an all-weather and flood-lit surface used for Athletics, Cricket and Hockey alongside five floodlit Netball/Tennis courts. This site is the original home of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which held the first Wimbledon Championships here in 1877, as well as the tennis of the 1908 Olympics. We still maintain excellent links with the club: a number of our students are selected as ball girls each summer - a source of great excitement but requiring considerable skill and poise!
During timetabled curriculum lessons, Years 7 and 8 will enjoy Athletics, Cricket, Dance/Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Swimming and Tennis. From Year 9, the curriculum broadens to include Badminton, Basketball and Lifesaving, alongside many other activities and by Sixth Form there is even more choice, namely Golf, Martial Arts and Zumba. In addition, during Year 10 and 11 some students choose to follow the OCR GCSE PE course where we have enjoyed impressive results over the past few years. From September 2023 we will be introducing PE A Level too.
Within our co-curricular programme, there are more sporting opportunities available including Football, Rowing, Rugby, Basketball and Yoga.
