Music is at the heart of Wimbledon High School and is an integral part of each school day, whether it be performances in assembly; taking part in one of the many concerts that fill our calendar or participating in our weekly Friday Jammin’ performances, there are opportunities for students to explore their creativity and imagination in a variety of different ways.
Recent developments include the creation of a Chamber Choir, currently featuring 28 of our finest singers from Y7-13; the introduction of a Concerto Competition, open to all Y7 to 13 students, with the finalist gaining a place to play their concerto alongside our orchestra next year; selling out our flagship concert at St John’s Smith Square (involving over 240 students across Seniors and Juniors); launching a choir tour to Rome for February 2024; commissioning Will Todd to write a piece for our annual Christmas service; and launching a student composition competition to feature alongside Will’s piece.
Whatever their level of experience, and whatever style of music they are interested in, students can flourish in Music at Wimbledon High.
From Symphony Orchestras, Chamber Orchestras and specialist chamber groups to Musical Theatre Ensemble, Djembe Drumming and Swing Band, we have a vast range of musical groups rehearsing each week.
Our annual Young Musician of the Year competition is a chance for soloists to work with professional musicians in specialist workshops and to perform as soloists in a competition open to all pupils in the Senior School.
