Junior Year 01

Year 1 couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day at the Wetlands Centre on Thursday...

The sun was shining and we were ready to explore. When we arrived, we had a quick snack and then we were on our way. We divided into classes and had an opportunity to either do a learning session of pond dipping or walk around the Wetlands Centre discovering the many different habitats and creatures. Pond dipping was fascinating. The girls caught newts, a three-spined stickleback, diving beetles, leech, a greater water boatman and caddis fly larva to name a few. They even spotted a frog in the reeds. Walking around the Wetlands Centre was exciting too. When asked what their favourite creature was, the otters seemed to be the highlight with the little mammals playing around and entertaining us all. The girls had a fantastic day and came home exhausted but with a wealth of information.
