Last Friday, Year 4 enjoyed a lovely walk in the sunshine to the AELTC, coinciding with this term’s topic of Wimbledon.
The girls had a VIP tour of the grounds, sitting on Centre Court, viewing the BBC media centre and rooftop, walking the players’ tunnels, being interviewed in the press conference seats and visiting the Museum.
The second part of the visit was a Victorian workshop looking at the history of the Wimbledon area. Using primary sources including the 1911 census data, the girls dressed up in role of locals, to debate whether the Championships should be relocated. They also heard about some of the first Wimbledon champions who claimed their titles at the original club venue, at our Nursery Road site. It was a most engaging and enjoyable day!
