Upper Juniors Singers Concert

Last Friday evening, the spotlight was on choral singing in the Junior School in our inaugural Upper Junior Singers' Concert where we had over 100 girls performing.

Junior Choir (Year 3-4) demonstrated excellent diction with Michael Rosen's tongue twisters as they energetically performed Movement by Russell Hepplewhite, the Senior Choir (Year 5-6) gave a polished performance of their two songs Sing by PinkZebra and Seasons of Love from Rent and the Chamber Choir treated us to an uplifting performance of Flying Free by Don Besig, with beautiful flute accompaniment provided by senior flautist Estella (Y12).

We were also treated to some gorgeous solo performances from some of our singing pupils: Lalita (Y6), Emmeline (Y5), Devnaa  (Y4), and Lily (Y4) and a wonderful small group rendition of When I grow up from Tiana, Guilia, Emmeline and Jasmine (Y5). They all showed mountains of courage performing to a packed auditorium of more than 300 people.

This event also saw our Junior School Staff Choir and Junior School Parent Choir give their debut performances - we are so grateful to have such inspirational role models in our school community who are willing to take themselves out of their comfort zone and try news things. Everyone sang marvellously!

Handel's Zadok the Priest heralded the end of the evening and filled our beautiful auditorium with an incredible wall of sound with all the choirs singing together. It was a wonderful evening and we are so proud of the commitment upper junior girls have shown to their singing. We are also indebted to our wonderful VMT team who supported this event in terms of accompaniment and singing coaching, including Merel van der Knoop, Moritz von Freyhold, Helen Ward, Stephen Hiscock, Susan Jiwey, Marika Rauscher and Claudia Myles.
