Every end is a new beginning

As well as an air of excitement, this time of year is tinged with emotion as Year 13s prepare to go on study leave and bid a fond farewell to Wimbledon High.

Each final moment is celebrated – usually with cake - one such moment being the ‘Lifers' Lunch’ which was held last week to celebrate members of the Class of 2023 who have been here since stepping into Reception at the age of four, bringing an end to their whole school career at WHS.They came together alongside long-serving staff for cake, a 'toast' and a group photo. It was a lovely afternoon. Well done all for making it this far!

In fact, Year 13 is actually just the beginning of a new relationship with the school – as a WHS and GDST alumna. Becoming part of a network of over 70,000 alumnae with all the benefits this can bring!

Last Thursday (27 April) we were thrilled to welcome back nearly over eighty alumnae from the Classes of 2017 and 2018 as well as former staff for a reunion to mark five years since leaving the school. Guests caught up with e each other’s news over cocktails and canapes, enjoyed touring the new buildings and browsing old photos with a distinct feeling of nostalgia!

Head, Fionnuala Kennedy said;

“Talking with alumnae is always a real tonic, reminding me of the golden threads that run through Wimbledon High and which our students absolutely take with them when they stride out of our gates: gathered together were young women who are confident and know their worth, who have developed solid, life-long friendships, and who are pursuing careers which they find stimulating and fulfilling. What a privilege to spend an evening in their company.”

A huge thank you to Head Girls Priyanka Patel (2017) and Jessica Price (2018) for assembling such a large and enthusiastic crowd!
