We are absolutely delighted to announce Wimbledon High School alumna Rachel Wang (Class of 1990) as a finalist in the GDST Alumna of the Year Awards 2020.

Each year the GDST recognises an alumna who has succeeded not just in her chosen field, but also in contributing to making the world a better place. A winner is then chosen by public vote www.gdst.net/AOYA. Previous winners include actress Olivia Colman (Norwich High School) and Dame Cressida Dick DBE (Oxford High School), the Met’s first female Commissioner.

On leaving Wimbledon High School, Rachel Wang went on to study Theology and History of Art at University of Bristol, before co-founding Chocolate Films, a production company, producing films for charities and arts organisations including; Tate, Save the Children, Greenpeace and Big Issue as well as working with Netflix, Virgin and the Royal Collection. 

Every year Chocolate Films provides film-making workshops to more than 3,000 underprivileged young people, these workshops are aimed at engaging young women in the technical and creative roles of film-making. Rachel also has a passion for creating community led documentaries and films, which has included an all-female film-making project to empower women.

Rachel’s awards include Women in Social Enterprise Award at the Social Enterprise Awards, Entrepreneur of the Year at the Black British Business Awards and Representation of Women in the Media Award at The Women’s Sport Trust awards.

She holds honorary doctorates from The University of Law and Middlesex University and sits on numerous boards, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Creative Industries Federation. She is the chair of the educational charity Art History Link-Up.
