Last Thursday, parents, alumnae, governors, staff and students came together to launch our bursary fundraising at our inaugural 1880 Society Drinks.

We were joined by Cheryl Giovannoni, CEO of the GDST and Fionnuala Kennedy who both spoke passionately about the impact of a bursary not only for the student who receives one but for the whole school community.

Ms Kennedy shared our new fundraising focus:

"As many of you will know, until 2022 all eyes were on Project Ex Humilibus which has transformed the school site, creating incredible new spaces for the benefit of our students and the wider community – literally “Building the Future” of our school and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations..

Tonight is the first step in turning our attentions to our new focus – Funding the Future - and specifically how we build a community that is reflective of our borough and is inclusive and diverse in a way that benefits us all."

This year, we have created the 1880 Society, named after our founding year, which recognises members of our community who pledge a regular annual gift of £1,880 or more in support of our bursary programme. This can be a monthly donation of £150 or an annual donation of £1500 which with gift aid totals £1880.

At the event we shared for the first time our new bursary film which you can view HERE and enjoyed musical performances from the Big Band and Estella in Y13.

With thanks to everyone who attended and to those who signed up to be our first 1880 Society members. If 14 families or individuals were able to do this each year – we would to be able to fund one new bursary award each year allowing more bright young women to benefit from a WHS education.
