Last Wednesday, Hannah (Year 7) was given a wildcard into an LTA British Tour Grade two event (grade two meaning a tournament designed for players of a national standard).

In order to qualify for the main draw, Hannah was required to win two consecutive matches - a tall order for a 12-year-old, given that most of the players in the competition were among the top 18-year-olds in the country! But Hannah won both these matches, not even dropping a set.

Hannah continued to play superbly, brushing aside players with far more experience who are ranked considerably higher than her. This didn't stop her! By Saturday, with her progress closely followed by Miss Coutts-Wood and the rest of the sports department, our very own tennis superstar had made it into the semi-final of this national competition. So far, so impressive - and then Hannah played the Saturday semi-final, beating a sixth former from Surbiton High, to gain a well-deserved place in the final!

"Watching Hannah live, I was bowled over by the talent, strength, and particularly the agility and court coverage that Hannah displayed. These traits were again in abundance during the final which Hannah won convincingly. Her fearlessness and composure were so impressive - we are all so proud of you Hannah. You are an inspiration to your peers, and must not underestimate your achievement winning a National Tournament. We will be watching your progress with anticipation and real excitement," said Director of Sport, Miss Coutts-Wood.
