After a three-year hiatus (due to Covid restrictions) the biennial Futures Fairs came back to WHS on Wednesday 12 October. With 80+ professionals and over 300 parents and students in attendance, the Auditorium, Cafe Sixth and Library were alive with conversation.
As well as parents and friends of the school, who all gave up their time to inspire and engage students from Year 9 and above, we were especially delighted to welcome over 30 alumnae back to the school.
With a wide range of professions represented, from Architecture and Banking through to Ethical Design and Food Manufacture there really was something for everyone. The students who attended benefitted hugely from being able to speak directly to delegates about their career journey and discover more roles and positions they had never before come across. Information, ideas and inspiration were very much in evidence.
Alongside the fair, parents were able to attend at session with Karen Kimura, Learning and Development manager at GDST and Nicole Godetz, workplace consultant about the Future of Work and how it will impact our young people.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the delegates and parents and students that attended and of course to my many colleagues, teaching and support staff, who contributed to the staging of the event. The Futures Fair will be back in 2024, but in the meantime please look out for our next Futures event - Options at 18 - in November.
